Assignment Filters

When you create a new assignment for your learners, you can use Assignment Selection filters to build an audience of users to be added to the assignment.

The dropdown filters are populated with the Learner Attributes created via a .csv upload, SSO, or SCIM. To learn more about what these attributes are and how to create them, check out this Learner Attributes article.

The only filter that is pre-populated is the Level selector:

An Important Note About the Level Filter

The level filter uses unique logic. When selected, it will pull in any learner who is enrolled in that level or above.

Example: Select White Belt, any learner who is at a White Belt level or above will be added to the assignment

This is most often used early on when most users are at the same stage of their journey and may not be applicable to more mature programs.

Filter Logic

When multiple attributes are selected before clicking "Add Group to Assignment," the AND operator is applied to the selected attributes. This means that learners for whom all the selected attributes are TRUE will be added to the assignment.

Example: Selecting "Department = Engineering" and Manager = "Bertram Gilfoyle" would add only individuals in Engineering who report to Gilfoyle.

When attributes are added as separate rules, i.e. "Add Group to Assignment" is clicked between attributes or groups of attributes, these rules function with the OR operator. Please note that the filters will need to be reset between rules.

Example: Select "Department = Engineering" and Manager = "Bertram Gilfoyle" and hit "Add group to Assignment." Then, clear the filters and select "Department = Engineering" and Manager = "Dinesh Chugtai" and hit "Add group to Assignment." The resulting audience will be users in Engineering who report to either Dinesh OR Gilfoyle.

Changing Filters After Learners Have Been Added

Please note that If you add users to an assignment using a rule that is no longer true, removing the rule will not automatically remove the associated users. You either need to add them manually or clear the user list and start over.

Attribute Updates

Rules are static and only apply to the learners added to the assignment at the time of the assignment's creation or when net new learners are added to the Platform.

If you need to add existing users who's attributes were updated to an assignment, you will need to add them manually or re-add the filter to the assignment to pull in the changes.
