Customizing Learning Paths
Overview
Security Journey offers pre-built recommended learning paths curated by application security experts — ready to use out of the box. However, you also have the flexibility to duplicate and customize these paths (or build new ones) to better suit your organization’s unique learning or compliance requirements.
How to Customize a Recommended Learning Path
- In the Admin interface, go to Paths & Quests → Recommended Paths.
- Select the path you wish to customize, then click Duplicate Path.
- Decide whether learners should be required to re-take lessons they’ve already completed (if they are re-enrolled on the new path version).
- Once duplicated, you’ll be redirected to My Paths, where you can edit the path details and structure.
In My Paths, you can:
- Edit the path’s name and description.
- Add or remove lessons. The total learning-path duration updates automatically.
- Mark lessons as required or optional.
- Reorder lessons to control their sequence (as shown in Map View or List View).
Important Considerations (Versioning)
- Once a custom path is published and learners are enrolled, they are assigned that specific version of the path.
- If you make further edits — for example, add or reorder lessons after publishing — those edits will only apply to new learners added to that path after the updates. Existing learners will continue on the version they were originally assigned.
Because of this versioning behavior, it’s strongly recommended to finalize and review a custom path thoroughly before you publish or assign it — to ensure learners get exactly the content you intend.
Want to Build a Path From Scratch?
If instead of customizing a recommended path you prefer to build a completely new one, the platform supports that. You can start a fresh custom path and pick exactly which lessons to include.
