Understanding Custom Assignments Based on Assessments

Overview

After completing a secure coding assessment, it's important to take action based on the results. Our platform offers custom-generated Assignments designed to guide users toward meaningful progress in their secure coding journey.

This article explains why we offer these assignments and how they are generated and managed.

Why are Custom Assignments important?

Our assignment process is designed with two key goals in mind:

  • Data-Driven Learning Paths
Each assignment is generated based on real user data from your team’s assessment results. This ensures that learning is relevant and targeted to your specific needs.

  • Actionable Next Steps
Rather than leaving teams with abstract results, we provide clear, actionable steps to improve secure coding skills following an assessment.

How do Recommended Assignments work?

  • Assessment-Based Generation
After a user or team completes a secure coding assessment, our Platform can automatically generate a custom assignment tailored to the results.

    • When you filter the table in an Assessment report, the system recalculates the scoring for that assessment based only on the filtered group of learners. From there, you can generate an Assignment for just those users—enabling a highly focused training approach.
  • Admin Control and Flexibility
You can review our recommended assignment and choose to:

    • Accept it as-is

    • Modify it to better suit team goals or timing

This ensures that your team gets a structured yet flexible approach to skills development.

Configuration and Setup

How to create a Recommended Assignment

  1. Navigate to Admin > Reporting > Assessments.
    1. Click on the Assessment you wish to generate an Assignment for.
  2. Click the "Generate Assignment" button under the Assessment Categories.
    1. If no users have completed it, the “Generate Assignment” button will be grayed out.
    2. You can apply filters to the User's Table in your Assessment report to create an Assignment for a targeted group of learners by:
      1. Proficiency Score
      2. Assessment Language
      3. Any other Learner Attribute in the tableScreenshot 2025-09-22 at 4.21.40 PM
    3. Once you are ready, click Generate Assignment.
      1. You’ll see a message confirming that the platform has auto-selected content for you based on assessment results.
  3. Review pre-selected content.
    1. Content is ranked from lowest to highest scoring topics.
    2. Lessons are directly mapped from topics using our content team recommendations. You can:
      • Deselect any lesson you don't want.
      • Add other lessons from the list.
      • Preview lesson details (optional)
        • Note: You can only choose from the recommended content provided — there are no custom additions beyond this selection at this time.
  4. Set Lesson order.
    • Reorder lessons by clicking on a lesson and using the carets on the left-hand side to move lessons as needed.
  5. Choose your Audience.
    • If you filtered your users before clicking Generate Assignment, only those displayed after filtering will be added to the Assignment.
      • This filtered subset of users will be automatically added to the Assignment.
    • If you did NOT filter your users within the Assessment Results, you can do that here:
      • By Score
      • Any available user attributes (e.g., Job Role, Department, Title, etc.)
    • If you did NOT filter your users within the Assessment Results, you will need to select and add users to the Assignment.

  6. Configure the Assignment Settings
    • Give the assignment a name and a description
    • Set its status:
      • Active (no start date required)
      • Inactive
    • Set Time Frame
      • End date
        • Fixed (MM/DD/YY)
        • Dynamic (e.g., 14 days)
      • Optional: Set reminder notifications
  7. Review & Submit
    •  Before creating your Recommended Assignment, you have the opportunity to review your settings.

After Publishing

  • Learners will receive an email notification directing them to start the Assignment.
  • The Assignment will appear on the Learner's My Journey page.
